A high police and military presence was seen across Manchester North East on Sunday as the People’s National Party (PNP) held a parish meeting in Christiana.
This follows a political clash in Fine Grass on Saturday, where tensions between PNP and Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters erupted over flag placements. One man was shot and injured during the incident after law enforcement intervened.
Heightened Tensions
Councillor Omar Robinson of the Alligator Pond division addressed the issue, telling the crowd that he would shorten the meeting due to rising political hostility. He also alleged that JLP supporters were attempting to intimidate PNP attendees on their way to the event.
Soldiers and police were strategically deployed to areas leading north into Christiana to prevent further disruptions.
Our Opinion
As Jamaica inches closer to another heated political season, the safety of citizens must come first. Violence and intimidation have no place in democratic participation. We urge both parties to condemn aggression and let their messages, not fear, drive support.
