PM HOLNESS ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR SMALL URBAN CENTRE IN HOPEWELL

HOPEWELL, HANOVER

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says a new small urban centre is on the horizon for Hopewell, as part of his administration’s plan to modernize rural towns and infrastructure across Jamaica.

🏙️ TRANSFORMING HOPEWELL INTO A MODERN URBAN HUB
Speaking at a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Hanover Eastern workers’ meeting on Sunday, Holness announced that the Government aims to “fix up” Hopewell to give residents a proper urban space to shop and conduct business “in ease and comfort.”

While the timeline and cost of the urban centre have not yet been disclosed, Holness assured attendees that the project aligns with broader efforts to revitalize community infrastructure across the island.

🛣️ MAJOR ROAD WORKS TO ACCOMPANY URBAN UPGRADE
The Hopewell town road is set to be widened, realigned, and upgraded as part of the development. Holness confirmed that plans for a Hopewell bypass have been completed and approved. This bypass, alongside a planned Lucea bypass, is expected to ease traffic congestion through both towns and enhance mobility for residents and businesses alike.

🗣️ OUR OPINION
This development could be a game-changer for western Jamaica—if executed well. But without a disclosed start date or cost, residents are left with promises, not plans. As 2025 elections loom, we hope this is more than just campaign sugar.
