KINGSTON, JAMAICA
Prime Minister Andrew Holness has sounded the alarm over the dangerous spread of lies and propaganda on social media, warning Jamaicans to beware of "badmind" individuals using platforms like TikTok and YouTube to mislead and confuse.
📱 From Fun to Falsehood
Speaking at a JLP meeting in Trelawny South, Holness said social media was originally built for fun and connection — but has since been hijacked by toxic voices pushing misinformation. “They use it to tell lies, spread propaganda, and bring down people,” he said.
🧠 Don’t Believe Everything You See Online
The Prime Minister urged citizens to remain critical:
“Not everything them tell you is true. You can be misled.”
Holness said JLP meetings across Jamaica are crucial to counter the misinformation and deliver factual updates directly to the people.
🚫 No Lies. Just Achievements.
Holness emphasized that the JLP has no need to peddle falsehoods:
“We have too many achievements to go and manufacture lies.”
He added that all JLP members have been instructed not to contribute to online toxicity, stating, "We must not add to the poison."
🔦 Lighting Up the Darkness
In a symbolic moment, Holness described party supporters as “little candles”, saying they must shine the light of truth in their communities:
“The only way to fight darkness is with light, and the Jamaica Labour Party will shine the light on the darkness of the PNP.”
📊 200 Achievements and Counting
Holness said the JLP's communications team is compiling a list of 200 major accomplishments, which he believes will solidify their record heading into the next election.
Don’t get caught in the web of online lies. Know the truth. Share the light.
